Oh, February, the month of love and romance. Although some of the best love stories can be found in novels and movies, they can also be found in video games. Romance may not always be the focal point in many video games, but there are a few that introduces us heartfelt love stories that leave a mark on our heart. Here are seven of the best couples in the world of video games:

Being right next to someone you love yet feeling like you’re worlds apart. This is the exact description of Master Chief and Cortana’s love story from Halo Wars. Cortana is an artificial intelligent built by UNSC. She has always been with Master Chief on all his missions, protecting him and guiding him along the way. In Halo 4, Cortana even sacrificed herself to save Master Chief from the destruction of the Didact’s ship. Too bad their story isn’t related to the upcoming Halo Wars 2, and I won’t be able to see them while playing it on my gaming laptop.

Once in awhile, we all love a good story about star-crossed lovers like Romeo and Juliet. Tidus was a professional blitzball player from a place called Zanarkand who was suddenly transported into another world called Spira. There he met a beautiful young summoner named Yuna, tasked to defeat a destructive force called Sin. Hoping he can find his way home, Tidus joined her group as they travel across the land. On their journey, the two fell in love with each other, not knowing the tragedy that lies ahead of them. Near the end of their quest, Yuna found out the truth that to defeat Sin, she must either choose to die or let Tidus disappear. Who says Romeo and Juliet had it all hard?

Leon and Ada

Throughout the Resident Evil series, it was not entirely clear if Leon Kennedy and Ada Wong were in a relationship. The two even shared a kiss in Racoon City, and since then Leon never ceased to care for the mysterious femme fatale. Ada, on the other hand, always came to help and protect Leon in grave situations. Their relationship had always been in the shadows, which kept us guessing. No wonder their story is the most intriguing one in the Resident Evil series. Well, perhaps real love doesn’t really need to have a label.

Mario and Princess Peach

Since 1985, Mario has been doing everything to save Princess Peach from the fire-breathing turtle, Bowser. Even if it means going through millions of Goomba, Piranha Plant, Podoboo, Hammer Bro, and Koopas, Mario will do everything for the woman he loves. He even got his brother Luigi into it all. And despite all these efforts, all Mario wants is to see his princess safe. If there is one thing guys should learn from Mario, it is that no matter how far your princess is, you must go after her.

Link and Princess Zelda

If there is one couple that can rival Princess Peach and Mario, it’s no other than Link and Princess Zelda. Their stories have been retold so many times in different circumstances and in different worlds. In Ocarina of Time, we’ve learned that two first met when they were children and Zelda asked for Link’s help to defeat the evil, Ganondorf. But it was in Skyward Sword where we really witnessed Link’s love for Zelda. They were childhood friends in Skyloft, and when Zelda was kidnapped by demonic forces. Link follows her, battling scary monsters to find the woman he loves. Indeed, love knows no boundaries.
